It is almost 2020 and we’re hosting friends this year. Obvs it’s the New Year party of the year! One of the things that I know will go with a BIG BANG are cocktails!
So, I bring you New Year Cocktail Ideas that are quick, easy and don’t rely on obscure ingredients and are totally Gluten-Free + Vegan + Coconut-Free + Allergy-Friendly + Seasonal.
What The Heck Are Cocktails???
In my mind (which I’ll admit is probably a little bit different to your mind…) a cocktail is a drink with more than one ingredient and maybe an umbrella or a straw. Not necessary fancy, not necessarily with alcohol (but the ones with alcohol are pretty good!).
Keepin’ Cocktails and Alcohol Gluten-Free And Vegan
Alcohol can be a tricky path to negotiate. Labelling in the EU (and most of the rest of the world) does not require ingredients to be listed in the same way as food items. This makes a gluten-free, vegan life a little harder. However, most supermarkets have online information for items that will make it easier to buy vegan and gluten-free cocktail ingredients.
Things to watch out for include animal products that may be used to clear wine, beer etc. (e.g. isinglass is from fish). Gluten in beer and many ‘gluten-free’ beers are made in the same way as ‘normal’ gluten containing beer and then processed to remove the gluten. I tend to avoid these drinks. Many spirits (e.g. whiskey) may distilled from grain (e.g. barley, wheat) although they may not technically contain gluten, I also avoid these. Many types of gins and vodka are distilled from potatoes but sometimes grain so be aware.
Manufacturers, producers and suppliers are becoming much more attuned to openly providing the information you need to make an informed choice when shopping for cocktail ingredients and alcohol.

Christmas White Sangria
Another super sophisticated cocktail. A little bit more effort but well worth it… Christmas White Sangria is rich with rosemary and cranberries which work perfectly with a dry white wine (e.g. white Rioja). A great treat for any celebration.
